“If we manage back to back home victories over Mali and Liberia, we will have a good chance of qualifying,” Mapeza said.

Pointing to some areas of improvement, Norman Mapeza highlighted the need for the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) to work hard in mobilising resources so as to bring in foreign based players together with the locals for friendly internationals as per the FIFA calendar.

Zimbabwe’s defeat to Mali left them second from bottom with only 2 points from 3 games, 5 points behind Cape Verde who have surprised many by leading group A with 7 points from 3 games.

Though still in with a mathematical chance with 3 games still to play, the Warriors now need close to a miracle if they are to leapfrog second placed Mali and log leaders Cape Verde, who they both have to beat if they are to entertain any hopes of making a 3rd appearance at Africa’s premier football competition.
