Manicaland Province is proposing for the establishment of an airport to realise benefits arising from the establishment of special economic zones.

The Mutare business community, local authorities and players in the tourism industry say the establishment of an airport facility will unlock investment opportunities and harness business growth potential.

Businessman Mr Joe Sanhanga said the establishment of special economic zones in the province requires an efficient transport system for investors.

Air transport system will also provide an opportunity to increase tourism activities, said Hospitality Association of Zimbabwe representative, Mr Clive Chinwada.

Confedreation of Zimbabwe Industries national vice president, Mr Richard Chivandire and Affirmative Action Group representative, Mr Fungai Chayeruka said the Manicaland community should support the special economc zones project.

On a global scale, air transport is a major enabler for key economic growth and the absence of an air transport system in Manicaland had negatively affected business development.
