elton mangoma.pngThe trial of Energy and Power Development Minister, Mr. Elton Mangoma in which he is facing allegations of abuse of office as a public official and violating state procurement procedures by engaging the services of a South African petroleum company, NOOA, without going to tender continued this Wednesday at the High Court of Zimbabwe.

The key witness for the State, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Energy and Power Development, Mr. Justin Mupamhanga gave evidence and thereafter Beatrice Mtetwa cross examined him.

The legal battle between the State and Mr. Mangoma yesterday saw Chief Law officer, Chris Mutangadura invoking Section 120 of the Criminal Procedure and Evidence Act Chapter 9:23 after Justice Yunus Omerjee had granted Mr. Mangoma bail in the other case involving ZETDC, a subsidiary of ZESA Holdings.

The invocation of Section 120 means that the judicial decision to grant the accused bail was temporarily suspended until the lapse of a week in which period the State through its legal representative, Chris Mutangadura will file an application for leave to appeal against the granting of bail.
