A Cranborne woman has been left homeless after her husband of 28 years married another woman and sold their matrimonial house after acquiring divorce papers behind her back.

The 57 year old woman has been living outside her matrimonial home in Cranborne for the past two days after being evicted by the Messenger of Court.

Narrating her ordeal, Mrs. Theresa Jairosi said she was told that the house was sold by her husband Peter Jairosi.

Unbeknown to her, Jairosi whom she married in 1986 under the Marriage Act Chapter 37, now Section 5.11, had wedded another woman, Thandiwe Moyo in 2003, under the same Act.

In 2007, Jairosi went on to nullify his marriage to Theresa on his own without the respondent.

Under the terms of the divorce, Jairosi took the house.

While it is a criminal offence to marry two women under Marriage Act Chapter 5.11, Peter Jairosi has not been arrested.

What is not clear is how Jairosi managed to have two marriages registered under the same Act as it was supposed to be detected by the Registrar of Marriages.

Theresa only came to know about the marriage when she was informed that their Cranborne house had been sold.
