Police in Marondera have arrested a farmer, Mr Million Taruvinga for allegedly threatening to shoot ZESA employees who had come to his farm to disconnect electricity over non-payment of outstanding bills.
It is alleged that the ZESA workers who were led by Dakarayi Sibiya, went to Taruvinga’s Longland farm in Marondera to disconnect power over a $3 600 bill.
An argument arose resulting in the farmer threatening to shoot them.
The employees ran for dear life and the farmer fired in the air.
Police recovered the weapon used, which is a 12 bore shotgun and a used cartridge and will be used as exhibit.
The man is expected to appear in court soon facing charges of negligently discharging a firearm.
The incident comes at a time when ZESA has embarked on a marked exercise to disconnect customers who have outstanding bills countrywide.
