Richard Thongoana stirred a massive upset after overcoming 3rd seed Takanyi Garanganga 6-2, 6-3 in the second leg of the ITF Futures tournament at Harare Sports Club today.

Garanganga was eliminated in the first round of the ITF Futures tournament in what was today’s biggest upset.

Garanganga who was seeded third struggled with his game in an encounter Thongoana upped his game with incredible strokes making life difficult for Zimbabwe’s second highest ranked player.

Thongoana won the first set 6-2, before losing three games in the second set of a contest he won 6-2, 6-3 to progress to the second round.

Also in action was Mehluli Sibanda who powered to a 6-2, 6-4 win over Namibia’s Tukhula Jacobs to set up a match with Thongoana.

First round action continues tomorrow with Benjamin Lock, Courtney Lock, Muzi Sibanda and Mark Chigaazira vying for places in the second round.
