The Zimbabwe Central Statistics Office (ZIMSTAT) has received new equipment for use in its census programmes and will next month conduct its preliminary tests to assess ZIMSTAT’s capability ahead of the 2012 census.
ZIMSTAT will from the 17th to the 27th of next month conduct preliminary tests of on its new census equipment involving between 10 000 and 20 000 households countrywide.
ZIMSTAT Population Census Manager, Mr Washington Mapeta said the exercise is being carried out in a bid to test the census’ office’s capability before the real census in 2012.
Mr Mapeta said the new equipment includes a new scanning machine, which will also be put on a test run.
The trial run of the new equipment will help ZIMSTAT analyse its procedures and logistics that will be needed in the actual census next year.
National census is done every 10 years in Zimbabwe but other dedicated activities such as last year’s demographic and health survey can be carried out as and when they are needed.
