Eleven schools in Zvishavane district have received boreholes and fencing materials for nutritional garden projects.
The government says focus upon the country’s young learners is crucial in the current education sector strategic plan 2016 to 2020.
In that regard,the 11 schools will access clean water and put up gardens after Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Dr Lazarus Dokora launched the initiative at Matenda Primary School.
The World Food Programme working with its agent the Adventist Development and Relief Agency also says school nutritional programmes and the provision of safe drinking water are important.
Besides ensuring the success of schools feeding programmes, government says agriculture is one of the learning areas under the curriculum framework of 2015 to 2022.
The 11 schools have been empowered to produce and feed learners by producing in their own gardens.
