The Municipality of Gwanda has received an additional US$800 000 through the public sector investment programme for the completion of the five megalitre water reservoir at Spitzkop suburb.

The long awaited five megalitre water reservoir project that was initiated in 2011 is now 99 percent complete and the availing of US$800 000 by government through The Infrastructure Development Bank will see the project being completed by the end of November.

Gwanda town secretary Ms Priscilla Nkala revealed that council has to date spent about US$1.9 million in the construction of the water reservoir which is seen as the panacea to the water challenges in the town.

The latest news has brought hope to Spitzkop North high density suburb residents who had had to battle perennial water challenges year in year out.

The Gwanda’s population has been growing over the years and is estimated to be currently standing at around US$60 000.

The local authority is also under pressure to provide serviced stands to the residents as well as ensure reliable water supplies in order to attract investment in the provincial capital.
