byo cleanup.jpgMatabeleland South Provincial Administrator, Mr David Mpofu has urged the Gwanda community to ensure that they uphold high standards of cleanliness in the town, in order to reduce health hazards such as cholera.

In a speech read on his behalf by the Principal Administration Officer, Ms Sikhangezile Mafu, at the official opening of the Town Cleanup Campaign, Mr Mpofu said: “It is everyone’s responsibility to make the environment habitable and free from diseases especially ahead of the rainy season.”

 

Speaking at the same occasion, Municipality of Gwanda Town Clerk, Mr Gilbert Mlilo, expressed concern over the amount of land and water pollution.

 

“The clean up exercise seeks to educate the community about their role in keeping the environment clean,” he said.

 

A similar campaign which was organized by the Municipality of Gwanda and the Environmental Management Agency has targeted to clean the Phakama Business Centre and the town central business district, among other areas.
