beatrice mtetwa.jpgA Harare magistrate has denied a fourth bail application for Farai Maguwu, who is facing charges of publishing and communicating false information about operations at Chiadzwa diamond fields.

In his ruling, magistrate Dony Ndirowei noted that the application by the defence can only be relevant if there was changed circumstances, saying extra territorial investigations have to be conducted.

He said the court considered the seriousness of the matter before making the ruling.

Soon after the ruling, Maguwu’s lawyer, Ms Beatrice Mtetwa indicated that she will appeal against the ruling.

Maguwu, who was the director of the Centre for Research and Development, was earlier denied two bail applications by the same magistrate and had appealed to the High Court.

However High Court Judge, Justice Chinembiri Bhunu upheld the magistrate’s ruling.

During cross examination, Maguwu revealed that his organisation had authored a document which he said was only a draft.

The investigating officer had also told the court that investigations are hindered by the accused and his defence lawyers who are not cooperating.

Maguwu is expected back in court on the 14th of July.
