Efforts to address hygiene challenges in Zvishavane’s Maglass township have seen a revamping of communal toilets and bathrooms which had become a potential health hazard.
In mining areas, communal toilets were traditionally the facility used by residents both as toilets and bathrooms.
Zvishavane was no exception and in the Maglass area nine such facilities are still there.
However, over the years they have deteriorated drastically posing a serious health risk.
Vandalised taps left the communal amenities with no running water.
Zvishavane-Ngezi MP, Cde John Holder launched an ambitious programme that has revived the communal toilets.
Over 4 500 people in Maglass use the communal toilets.
In the event of disease outbreak the consequences could be dire.
