The late senior army officer and liberation war hero Lieutenant Colonel Temba Mabhena who died on Thursday last week has been buried at the Mashonaland West Provincial Heroes Acre in Chinhoyi.
The late Lt Colonel Mabhena passed away last Thursday at mechanised brigade field ambulance company in Inkomo.
He was 60.
The late senior Zimbabwe National Army officer was a decorated liberation war hero and soldier with a political career dating back to 1976, when he joined the liberation struggle and received military training in Zambia and Romania before he came back to execute the armed struggle.
At independence, he was attested into the ZNA as a private and rose through the ranks to become a Lt Colonel in 2010, a position he held until the time of his death.
He received several medals in line with his duties.
Mr Jim Kadziya, who stood in for Mashonaland West Minister of State Cde Faber Chidarikire during the late hero’s burial, described Lt Colonel Mabhena as a man who committed his whole life to serving Zimbabwe and to defending the country’s interests.
A cousin to the late hero Mr Jones Nkomo paid tribute to government and Zanu PF for according hero status to Lt Colonel Mabhena.
The late Lt Colonel Mabhena is survived by his wife Thandiwe and two sons.
