The Urban Councils Association of Zimbabwe is set to host the third Local Government Investment Conference (LOGIC) in Bulawayo next month under the theme, “Local Authorities: Ready for Investment”.

The indaba is aimed at creating a marketing platform for urban authorities as investment destinations and to showcase opportunities and service delivery innovations.

The investment conference is coming at a time when the government has embraced the Zimbabwe is open for business mantra and local authorities are readying themselves to accommodate the anticipated huge numbers of investors who will be flocking into the country.

The chairman of the LOGIC organising committee Dr George Makunde said the initiative to promote investment and local economic development is a response to the government’s economic thrust and local authorities play a strategic role in economic development.

“In his inauguration speech President Emmerson Mnangagwa challenged local authorities to be the engines of local economic development and growth. We have taken heed of the challenge and we have hit the ground running hence this conference where we expect to market various investment opportunities in our local authorities.

The investment conference set for the ZITF grounds in Bulawayo from the 16th to the 18th of October 2018 will be attended by various stakeholders among them development partners, sister associations, government ministries, local and international financiers, state enterprises and agencies.

Mr Makunde added that; “As local authorities we want to play our role and improve the lives of our residents by establishing ourselves as economic hubs. Major components of the conference are the featured topics which include investment in water and sanitation infrastructure, urban renewal and urban regeneration”.

LOGIC 2018 will be two-pronged; a conference where speakers will make presentations based on the subthemes and a business expo where all local authorities will showcase their business investment opportunities and corporate organisations will exhibit their products and services.
