Zimbabwe’s fashion industry has over the years been flooded by cheap imports but the country’s amazing designers are changing the fashion and designing industry by coming up with styles that identify with the true Zimbabwean culture.

Many Zimbabweans due to the unfavourable economic conditions the country is currently facing have resorted to hoarding second hand clothing from overseas.

It is against this background that Nyaraivamwe Muti a local fashion designer behind popular Zimbabwean brand African Pride that specialises in African print and lace has come up with creative designs which she says portrays the true Zimbabwean identity.

Having started fashion and designing in 2011, Muti says she has managed to add to her collection Sungazone a brand that specialises in children’s wear.

The Zimbabwe’s fashion industry has many talented up and coming designers but the major challenges that have been cited include lack of international exposure and a platform to showcase their designs as well as financial support.
