Local companies are embracing the lean management concept, a business leadership style being promoted by the Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries (CZI) to improve customer value and enhance industry’s competitiveness.

Lean Institute of Africa chief executive officer, Dr Anton Grutter said companies that have adopted lean management have achieved quick gains adding what is critical is to maintain structural changes that have better efficiency, in the long term.

The Scientific and Industrial Research Development Corporation has also come on board to assist the CZI in advancing the lean management concept, with a number of top companies adopting the measure.

Key objectives of the initiative are to reduce production time and processes and minimise costs thus improving quality.

Lean management can improve productivity by as much as 162 percent according to case studies with some leading international companies like Nike, Intel, Toyota and BMW adopting the concept.
