elmagrahi taher.jpgFormer Libyan Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Mr Taher al-Magrahi (pictured) has left the country following marching orders given by the Foreign Affairs Minister, Cde Simbarashe Mumbengegwi on Monday.

Mr al-Magrahi was given 72 hours by the Zimbabwean authorities within which to leave the country for defecting to the rebels, who are fighting Libyan strongman, Muammar Gadaffi, a development that is in violation of the Vienna Convention which governs diplomatic protocol.

Sources close to the developments said Mr al-Magrahi left Thursday afternoon with a convoy of five cars with Botswana as his destination, but it is not clear whether he would stay there.

The sources also say that the former envoy was initially stuck in the country yesterday after failing to secure flights seats from airlines that ply the Zimbabwean route.
