Provincial liberation war hero, Cde Charles Sithole whose Chimurenga name was Cde Norman Chisango and provincial war heroine Cde Florence Masona whose Chimurenga name was Cde Shungu have been buried at the Harare Provincial Heroes Acre.
Speaking at the burial of the two Cdes, deputy director in the office of Harare Metropolitan Province Minister of State, Mr Ignitious Mungure who represented the Harare resident Minister, Cde Miriam Chikukwa said Cde Sithole’s military exploits saw him receiving an outstanding award by former Ethiopian president, Colonel Haile Mariam Mengistu in recognition of his military prowess.
Mr Mungure said the late Cde Masona’s contribution to the country is seen in the number of awards given to her for the contribution before and after independence stating that she is an epitome of bravery and shrewdness on the part of women combatants.
Harare Province war veterans’ chairperson, Cde John Guta and Zanu PF Central Committee member, Cde Endy Mhlanga said the two Cdes deserved to be respected by ensuring the shrine is upgraded.
Cde Sithole died on the 25th of this moth while the Cde Masona passed away a day before (24 May).
Family spokespersons Samuel Mhlanga and Belinda Josphats say the two left a void that will be difficult to fill.
The late WO1 Florence Masona is survived by her three children while the late Charles Sithole is survived by his wife Agnes Karikoga and three children.
