Provincial hero Cde Simon Mapako who succumbed to meningitis on Tuesday this week has been laid to rest at Harare Provincial Heroes Acre.
Cde Simon Mapako whose Chimurenga name was Cde Simon Kuoma has been described as a true cadre who worked tirelessly to liberate this country.
Retired Colonnel Josiah Chikowore, a nephew to the late said Cde Mapako played a critical role in 1976 when he joined other war cadres at Pikwe Camp before his deployment to the front.
Director in the office of the Minister of State for Harare Province, Cde Ignatius Mungure paid tribute to the works of Cde Mapako.
Born in 1957 in Gutu Masvingo Province, Cde Mapako joined the liberation struggle in 1976.
At independence in 1980 he was attested into the Zimbabwe National Army and during his service he attained accolades of hardwork that include Zimbabwe liberation war medal, ten year service medal, long and exemplary service medal and sovereignty service award.
He is survived by wife Manana Mutemera and six children.
