lenny gwata.jpgFormer Highlanders and Dynamos defender Lenny Gwata has died. He was 34. Gwata died in Johannesburg, South Africa where he had been staying for the past three years together with his wife Beater Mangethe and their 15 year old son.

Lenny Gwata started his career at Highlanders in 1993 and was part of the Bosso team which won the Bulawayo giants’ second league title the same year.

He later moved to the now defunct Amazulu before he was signed by Harare giants Dynamos. At Dynamos Gwata became an integral member of the Glamour Boys commanding a first team jersey.

At Dembare he joined another former Bosso player Makwinji Soma Phiri before Lovemore Ncube later joined. The trio became an elite band of players who made it at Dynamos after crossing the floor from bitter rivals Highlanders.

Lenny Gwata was a member of the 1998 history making Dynamos team which reached the CAF Champions League finals before reaching the mini-league phase in 1999. After his Dynamos career Gwata played for Buymore and Motor Action before going to South Africa.
