MDC deputy national chairman, Job Sikhala has been granted a RTGS$5 000 bail by Masvingo High Court judge, Justice Neville Wamambo.
Sikhala was arrested last Tuesday for allegedly subverting a constitutionally elected.
The state led by prosecutor, Chiedza Muhwandavaka had proposed that bail be pegged at RTGS$50 000 but in his ruling, Mr Wamambo set the bail at RTGS$5 000.
Sikhala was ordered post the bail at Bikita Magistrates Court.
The state had also proposed that the accused be barred from addressing political rallies, but this was overruled by Justice Wamambo.
Upon being granted bail, Sikhala was ordered to surrender his passport to the clerk at Bikita Magistrates Court.
He was also ordered to reside at house number 56987 Sanayi Street in St Mary’s Chitungwiza and to report to St Mary’s Police Station once a week until his trial is over.
Sikhala’s lawyers led by Mr Alec Muchadehama said they are happy that their client was granted bail.
“We are happy that he was granted bail by the judge and remember the state had also consented that he be granted bail. The conditions are on the stiff side but we are happy that he will be able to attend court from outside,” he said.
Sikhala was arrested on Tuesday last week.
