The High Court has ordered Harare City Council to provide adequate restitution to members of Harare South Housing Apex Cooperative Society Limited whose homes at Eyerstone Farm they unlawfully demolished.

The order was handed down by Justice Edith Mushore, who also interdicted the local authority from evicting the applicants until the matter is finalised.

Members of the cooperative approached the High Court under case number HC9616/17 after the Harare City Council demolished their homes in the absence of a court order.

The affected members welcomed the court order, saying it brings sanity to lawlessness exhibited by Harare City Council.

The Chairman of the apex society, Cde Tonderai Nkomo and Chairman of Retreat Union Housing Cooperative, Cde Joseph Bheura told the ZBC News that Harare South should not be disturbed and called on the government to regularise the area where more than 2800 people have been affected.

Many houses have been demolished by the city council in different suburbs, leaving people desperate for accommodation.
