The Ministry of Lands and Rural Resettlement says it is overwhelmed by the number of youths applying for land to venture into farming projects highlighting it is an indication that the land reform programme continues to register success.

Lands and Rural Resettlement Minister, Dr Douglas Mombeshora revealed his office has over the past days been inundated by calls from youths seeking farming land.

Asked if government has the land to give them, Dr Mombeshora said land is scarce but hopes that more can be identified if Treasury allocates funds to the commission set out to audit idle and underutilised land which can be redistributed.

The high demand for land for agriculture purposes comes at a time when government is now giving new land permits which provides security of tenure for life and addresses issues to do with inheritance and boundary disputes.
