sithembiso nyoni 31-12-11ed.jpgA Cabinet Minister, who is part of a high powered business delegation accompanying Vice President Joice Mujuru to Dubai says the land reform programme has resulted in communal farmers recording an improvement in maize production levels from 50% to the current 90%.

 

Acting Minister of Women’s Affairs, Gender and Community Development, Cde Sithembiso Nyoni said this when she presented a paper on agriculture and food security situation in Zimbabwe to a business delegation in Dubai this Thursday.

She however said the anticipated maize shortages in Zimbabwe  are a result of the effects of climate change.

Minister Nyoni said government has put in place mechanisms to avert the looming maize shortages by introducing grain loan schemes, mostly in rural areas.

Cde Nyoni hailed the Head and State and Government and Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, President Robert Mugabe for his vision of empowering formerly marginalised indigenous Zimbabweans through the land reform programme.
