FIBA Africa Club championships bound women’s sides Lakers seniors and Southern Mavericks sampled out their strength in a Bulawayo Basketball Association’s (BBA) league encounter that ended with Lakers claiming the bragging rights thanks to a close 52-50 victory.

The main matches of the BBA weekend fixtures saw some top basketball action being exhibited, leaving spectators asking for more.

A tightly contested encounter it was that saw Lakers eventually piping Southern Mavericks 52–50 in a match that had Sthabile Ngadini and Nobukhosi Ndlovu top scoring with 16 points each.

The victory ensured Lakers kept their top spot with 4 points after 2 outings.

The other main fixture also produced a close result with Oilers narrowly beating defending champions Giants 63-61 in a men’s encounter.

Noah Penduka was once again the toast of the match as he contributed 25 points.

In other matches, the battle of the women tertiary institutions saw NUST humiliating Lupane State University (LSU) 76- 18 in a women’s encounter while City Knights got the better of LSU men 53–43.

NUST ‘A’ showed their prowess as they dismantled their ‘B’ side 84–31 in a men’s encounter before Divas’ fine run was cut short by Angels in a 35–57 loss.

The last match of the weekend saw Highlanders overpowering Ostrich 62–17 in a men’s encounter to maintain their top spot on the log standings.
