The Zimbabwe women’s cricket team took a 1-nil lead in their T-20 series against Ireland following a 6 wicket win at the Country Club this afternoon.
The Lady Chevrons won the toss and elected to field first as they sought to restrict the tourists.
Ireland looked to have started steadily but lost their first wicket in the 6th over with the score at 32 for 1.
Ashley Mushangwe and Precious Marange were the pick of Zimbabwe’s bowlers after both took two wickets as Zimbabwe restricted Ireland to 101 for 7 in their allotted 20 overs.
Mary Waldron top scored for Ireland with 34 runs.
Needing 102 runs to win, Zimbabwe had a decent opening partnership of 46 runs before Modester Mupachikwa was out stumped for 18.
Marange chipped in with 14 with Chipo Mugeri ending unbeaten on 31 when Zimbabwe reached the required target in the last over.
Zimbabwe and Ireland will now meet in a second T-20 slated for the Country Club on Saturday.
