President Mugabe welcomes King Letsie III of Lesotho at the Harare International Airport. The King is in Zimbabwe on a 4-day State visit

President Robert Mugabe says the visit in the country by King Letsie III of the kingdom of Lesotho is a clear demonstration of the desire by Zimbabwe to maintain warm relations with Lesotho.

Speaking during a state banquet hosted in honour of King Letsie III at State House last night President Mugabe said the visit will further strengthen the bond as well as enable exchange of views on issues of mutual interest.

President Mugabe said Zimbabwe and Lesotho are linked through history of their people which saw some male Zimbabwean students studying in Lesotho marrying some Basotho girls.

He added the two countries are also bound together by a shared history that dates back to the days of the liberation struggle in which Lesotho played an important role towards Zimbabwe’s independence despite threats from the apartheid regime.

President Mugabe also wished the people of Lesotho a peaceful environment as they go into the polls next month to choose their parliamentarians.
