kimberly process plant.jpgThe Kimberly Process Monitor Mr. Abbey Chikane arrived in the country yesterday on a three day fact finding mission to assess the situation in Zimbabwe’s Marange diamond fields to determine the implementation of the joint work plan.

Mr. Chikane is to monitor the joint work plan that was adopted at last year’s plenary session in Namibia which entails the compliance of Zimbabwe to the Kimberly Process Certification Scheme ahead of the December deadline.

In a statement, the Kimberly Process said the visit by the diamond expert in the country who is also the founder chairman of the Kimberly Process is the beginning of a collaborative approach to the implementation of the Kimberly process minimum requirements.

During his three day visit the diamond expert is expected to tour Marange Diamond fields and will meet officials from Mbada Diamond Mining Company as well as Canadile to get an appreciation of the current state of operations at the diamonds fields.

Zimbabwe’s diamonds are becoming politicised by western nations trying to use the KPS to deny Zimbabwe exploitation of its God given natural resources.
