The competition is being used as a selection platform for the team to represent the nation at the Heroes Cup Tournament and the Zone 6 championship to be hosted by South Africa.

The “Get into the Ring” kickboxing tournament is a national competition, hence a diverse number of fighters from the different provinces of the country will be on parade.

Zimbabwe Kickboxing Association President, Tony Kamangira said they are using the competition to select the national team that will represent the nation at two major international events penciled in for Zimbabwe and South Africa soon.

“The tournament is being used to select fighters to represent Zimbabwe at the Heroes Cup Tournament and Zone 6 Championship which will take place in South Africa, so it provides an opportunity for the upcoming boxers to challenge established fighters for places in the national team since no one is guaranteed a place,” Kamangira said.

The “Get into the Ring” kickboxing tournament, which will showcase action in several age and weight categories, will be held at the Mbare Netball Complex on Saturday.

Kickboxers who catch the eye of national team selectors will get a chance to prove their prowess on a bigger stage – the Heroes Cup competition to be hosted by Zimbabwe next month.

Invitations for the tournament have already been sent to 31 countries worldwide, with Finland, Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea having already confirmed participation.
