Zanu PF Women’s League Political Commissar, Dr Olivia Muchena has challenged the party leadership to be abreast with the indigenisation and economic empowerment law.
Addressing Mashonaland West Zanu PF Provincial Coordinating Committee in Chinhoyi on Sunday, Dr Muchena said it is imperative for the party to educate ordinary people on the programme and the legislative instrument behind it.
“The people at the grassroots need to understand that the programme is a process and not an event, and that it is a fulfillment of the liberation struggle agenda,†said Dr Muchena.
Speaking at the same occasion, Zanu PF Women’s League Secretary for Information and Publicity, Cde Monica Mutsvangwa said contrary to some beliefs, the indigenisation programme is not for the elite only but is broad based.
Some members of the provincial coordinating committee proposed that a committee of ministers be given powers to approve ownership deals with foreign owned companies rather than leaving the task to one minister.
The meeting sought to create awareness among party provincial leaders on the indigenisation policy and to provide information and views on indigenisation issues.
