Renowned karateka, Shihan (Master) Samson Muripo has been crowned World Champion at the 6th Kyokushin Karate World Cup in Moscow, Russia this Sunday.

This is the same tournament that saw him winning gold at a high profile international competition where he became the first African to be crowned world champion in Osaka, Japan in 2009.

The road to this victory was however not rosy as fate dealt him a huge blow, receiving news of his father’s death, before the tournament was finished.

In true martial arts fashion, determination and focus were the vital ingredients that saw the Fifth dan black belt defy all odds to earn his third World Champion title after he also scooped gold at the 3rd International So-Kyokushin Karate Tournament in Ahvaz, Iran in 2016.

Shihan Muripo participated in the Veterans Category where he was drawn with two former world champions which proved to be a challenging draw, however, his victory proved the World Champions prowess.

It was a bittersweet affair as Muripo dedicated his latest achievement to his father who was buried on Sunday in his absence.
