Most outpatients at Parirenyatwa and Harare hospitals in Harare are stranded while others have to endure long hours of wait due to staff shortages, as the doctors’ strike continues countrywide.
Members of the Health Profession Authority (HPA) conducted a survey at Parirenyatwa, Harare and Chitungwiza hospitals today and established that only a few senior doctors are attending to emergencies.
At Harare Hospital, most benches were empty as patients are reportedly being turned away while consultant doctors are chipping in and attending to emergency cases.
The pediatric section at Harare Hospital has been shut down.
HPA Secretary General, Mr Shepherd Humure urged doctors to return to work and negotiate with the government while at work so that people’s lives are not lost unnecessarily.
