cricket zim2.jpgThe inter-franchise age groups tournament roared into life this Wednesday morning with budding cricketers out to catch the eye of selectors.

The country’s four franchises -  Mountaineers, Mashonaland Eagles, Southern Rocks, Midwest Rhinos and  Matabeleland Tuskers are all part of the junior cricket extravaganza.

The Under 14 boys are battling for honours at Prince Edward High School, while the Under 16’s are at Alexandra Sports Club in the capital.

Marondera is the venue for the Under 18 age group.

Tournament director, Francis Rashikayi said the event is pivotal in exposing junior cricketers to stiff competition.

The junior inter-franchise which began on Wednesday is expected to end this Saturday.

Players who would have impressed are set to be drafted into the Under 14, Under 16 and Under 18 national teams.
