jomic.jpgMembers of the Joint Monitoring and Implementation Committee (JOMIC) media subcommittee says the media, both public and private, has played a crucial role in assisting the organ to fulfill its mandate and functions of building mutual trust and promoting dialogue among parties in the Global Political Agreement.

As part of ongoing efforts by JOMIC to promote tolerance, trust, peace and national unity, members of the JOMIC media subcommittee held a meeting with editors and deputy editors drawn from the local media.

Speaking on the sidelines of the one day familiarisation meeting, current Chairperson of the media subcommittee Cde Oppah Muchinguri of Zanu PF said the organ recognizes the crucial role played by the media, hence the need to engage with the editors to continuously find ways of working together in disseminating correct information.

MDC-T representative in the media subcommittee, Mr. Innocent Chagonda noted that both public and private media institutions have done a lot to inform Zimbabweans on GPA implementation progress.

The editors present at the meeting agreed to meet with members of the JOMIC media subcommittee once every month so as to review progress on how political issues will be handled by the media.

MDC – N representative Mr. Qubani Moyo said the arrangement is a positive development that will ensure that members of the public get correct information with regards to political developments in the country.

Inter-party violence has been one of the biggest challenges that JOMIC has had to deal with and so far the organ is helping in the peace building process by holding inter-party meetings across the country.
