golf-ball.jpgUS based junior golf player, Scott Vincent scooped the 72 hole Ray Stracker Junior Golf Tournament which ended at the Chapman Golf Club in the capital this Friday afternoon.

Scott Vincent defied all odds to win the prestigious junior golf tournament which is also considered for the Order of Merit points.

Initially, young Vincent was not expected to make it in time, but was a late entry.

After the first round of play, he was a clear favourite to win the tournament due to his low scores and low handicap.

His experience began to show against some of the locally- based golfers.

The tournament is the season opener and attracted more than 50 junior players from across the country.

Scott Vincent, who has represented Zimbabwe at various international tournaments including the Orange Bowl, is a product of the Zimbabwe Junior Golf Association’s development programmes which has also churned out a number of quality players.

Some of the big-name players to come out of the development programme include Marc McNulty, Nick Price and Tony Johnstone and the late young Lewis Chitengwa.

Of the current players, Zimbabwe’s only active player on the US PGA Tour, Brendan De Jong and injured Marc Cayeux are some of the beneficiaries of the programme.
