The government says it is vital to improve road, aviation, rail and water transport infrastructure to allow the military to operate efficiently when carrying out its duties of defending the nation.
Presenting a paper at the Zimbabwe Staff College on issues affecting the transport infrastructure, the Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development, Dr Joram Gumbo said the government does not have enough resources to develop the transport sector without the help of investors, hence the need for other partners to complement its efforts.
Dr Gumbo also welcomed the arrival of railway equipment worth $400 million injected by Zimbabweans in the diaspora from South Africa to revive the National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ).
“The major factors affecting infrastructure availability in the country include resource constraints, obsolete machinery and vandalism,” said Minister Gumbo.
The students at the Zimbabwe Staff College are attending a joint command staff course no 31.
