Five medium sized local business companies got a shot in the arm after winning US$50 000 each for coming up with innovative ideas in Agri-business.
Quill Driver of Bulawayo, Zimbabwe Coffee Mill of Mutare, Marondera based Better Agriculture and ABST TCM Harare are the companies which walked away US$50 000 each plus a package of technical assistance tailored to their business needs.
The local companies collected the prize money after they excelled in the Agro Initiative Zimbabwe competition, initiated by the Small and Medium Enterprise Development Ministry to honour small to medium businesses which produce exciting business concepts with a potential to influence industrial development.
Presiding over the awards ceremony held in the capital, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Small and medium Enterprise Development, Mrs Evelyn Ndlovu applauded the winners and urged them to use the prize money in further developing their businesses.
The country director for the international organisation applauded the diligence exhibited by the award winners and pledged to garner more resources and to include more participants.
Agro Innovation Zimbabwe is a joint partnership between the Small and Medium Enterprise Development Ministry and an international development organisation which seeks to provide business solutions to poverty.
