The local industry has hailed the pro-production policies and robust economic reforms being pursued by the government which are geared at stimulating local production and enhancing the competitiveness of the domestic economy.
The Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce (ZNCC) which is hosting its annual congress and annual general meeting in the resort town of Victoria Falls, is convinced that the government economic reform drive and pro-production policies have set the tone for industrialisation and economic revival.
Outgoing ZNCC president Mr Davison Norupiri told the gathering that industry is grateful of the government drive in creating an enabling environment through the enactment of policies and strategies such as the Command Agriculture Programme, ease of doing business drive and Special Economic Zones Act.
Going forward the industry representative body says a collaborative effort between the policy makers and the private sector in further curtailing the import bill, boosting capacity utilisation and increasing exports will be critical in the full recovery of the domestic economy.
Industry and Commerce Minister Dr Mike Bimha who hailed the resilience of the domestic industry assured industry of government’s continued focus on improving the business environment, adding that a local content policy is being finalised to buttress the gains of Statutory Instrument 64.
The 2017 ZNCC annual congress running under the theme: ‘Consolidating The New Normal Economy Through Policy Reforms’ is being held on the backdrop of a recent surge in manufacturing sector capacity utilisation to 47 percent from 34 percent, improved agricultural output and an improved performance by the mining sector.
