The government has hailed the contributions by the local industry in the formulation of sector specific strategies aimed at ensuring the effective implementation of indigenisation regulations.
This comes at a time stakeholders in the local industry have intensified efforts in ensuring that the success of the economic empowerment drive.
Commenting on the progress made so far in the implementation of the indigenisation regulations, Youth Development, Indigenisation and Empowerment Minister, Cde Saviuor Kasukuwere said the contributions by industry will be incorporated in the final instrument to be published soon by the government.
The contributions by industry have been so encouraging and it will allow us to take off in a more robust way. We are also happy that the sector specific committees have finalised the report on recommendations which will soon be handed over to government,â€ said Cde Kasukuwere.Â
Meanwhile, the head of the Sirat Diamond Sourcing Company delegation, which was recently in the country, Mr Ashit Mehta commended the countryâ€™s indigenisation and economic empowerment drive as the only way of ensuring sustainable economic development.
â€œThis is a noble initiative and we are ready as a partner in the mining industry to abide by the regulations,â€ said Mr Mehta.
The 13 sector specific committees, which include tourism and hospitality, agriculture as well as mining were mandated under the Indigenisation and Economic Empowerment Act to come up with recommendations within the specific sectors on time scale, threshold and specific interventions in the implementation of the indigenisation regulations.Â
