The Civil Protection Unit (CPU) says it is on high alert in anticipation of floods that might occur across the country.

The CPU has also urged people living in low lying areas to move to higher ground as there are fears of flash floods.

Due to continuous rains being experienced across the country, there are fears of flash floods in several low lying areas.

Speaking to the ZBC News, acting director Civil Protection Mrs Sibusisiwe Ndlovu said the CPU is fully geared to handle disasters that might arise.

The CPU has also implored locals to appreciate weather patterns in their areas and the general historic occurrences of how flooding has previously affected them.

Flash floods have hit several parts of the country especially areas in the low lying regions such as Muzarabani, Gwanda, Mwenezi and many other places.

Property and lives have been lost in the process.
