Hundreds of people are set to converge at the Longcheng Plaza this Sunday to mark the 2017 Chinese New Year that will see Chinese and local art groups showcasing various cultural activities at the event.

The Chinese New Year also known as the spring festival, is China’s most celebrated traditional festival marking the first day of the 2017 Chinese New Year on the 28th of January.

Zimbabwe Chinese Business Association executive deputy chairperson and secretary general Ms Li Manjuan said this year’s Chinese New Year celebrations will be marked by various activities that include local and Chinese arts performances, Chinese New Year traditional parade, a lucky draw, food festival , business expo and a fun fair for kids.

According to the Chinese 12 year animal zodiac cycle, 2017 is a year of the rooster and the Chinese people believe that a good start to the year will lead to a lucky year.

Zimbabwe and China have engaged in various cultural exchange programmes as a way of cementing the strong bilateral relations which exist between the two countries.
