The South African ambassador to Zimbabwe Mphakama Mbete says African governments are increasingly aware of the need to improve labour relations and enhance the prospects of industrial peace and ensure stable economic and social development.
During his closing remarks at the just ended African Regional Labour Administration Centre (ARLAC) workshop on Training in Mediation, Conciliation and Arbitration for Changing Work Environment in Harare, Ambassador Mbete said dramatic rise in industrial disputes between employers and workers has put pressure on under-resourced and under-staffed organisations.
ARLAC acting director Dr Kuponandishe Hlabonu says one of the major objectives of the workshop was to analyse challenges on labour administration and collective bargaining institutions and processes.
Government representatives from 11 African countries attended the five-day workshop.
The event also saw participants receiving attendance certificates.
