farmers-market-19.jpgGovernment has been urged to take action against the importation of agricultural products which are produced by local farmers.

Speaking on the sidelines of an agricultural show held in Domboshava, the Member of the House of Assembly for Goromonzi West Constituency, who was also the Guest of Honour at the show, Cde Beatrice Nyamupinga said importing agricultural products that are available locally is costly and detrimental to the farming industry, which is struggling to recover after years of sanctions.

Farmers also echoed Cde Nyamupinga’s sentiments, saying the government should put in place measures that guard against the importation of products like tomatoes, onions and cabbages, which are produced by local farmers.

Cde Nyamupinga donated six scotch carts, bags of fertiliser, pesticides and maize seed among other inputs and implements to farmers who excelled in various farming activities.

The farmers appealed to the government to deliver inputs in time to ensure a successful farming season.
