mourners gathered at the karimanzira residence.jpgHundreds of mourners converged at the Karimanzira home in Harare to pay their respects to the late Governor and Resident Minister of Harare Metropolitan Province, Cde David Karimanzira, who died on Thursday morning.

 

 

Most of those interviewed at the home described the late Cde Karimanzira as a gentle giant and a humble, honest leader.

 

Zimbabweans from across the social strata, different age groups as well as various professions started flocking to the home of the late Karimanzira in the Grange along Enterprise Road in Harare as soon as the news of his sudden death began spreading.

 

Workers from various government departments and parastatals, representatives of the business community, colleagues in the party, ordinary men and women, professionals and even the youths were all there to join the Karimanzira family in mourning.

 

Many who spoke to the ZBC, gave testimony of his objectivity and uprightness and his passion to see the ordinary people’s lives improve.

 

Former Chitungwiza Mayor, Cde Joseph Macheka said Cde Karimanzira was a unifier and a loyal servant of the party and people.

Harare Provincial Chairman Ambassador, Amos Midzi described Cde Karimanzira as an objective accessible and humble leader.

Mashonaland East Zanu-PF Chairman, Cde Ray Kaukonde, who replaced Cde Karimanzira when he was promoted to take up the role of Harare Metropolitan Resident Minister said the late Karimanzira was a teacher, and an advisor to him  who helped him in promoting development in the  province.

Dr Karimanzira’s youngest brother and last born in the family, Patterson Karimanzira said his brother was a gentle character and a generous man.

 

Government ministers, politburo members, representatives of the women’s league, members of the house of assembly, including Senate President Cde Edna Madzongwe, and representatives of various churches and women’s groups , were all there , showing the various social groups  that the late Karimanzira socialised with and the various issues that he represented in the various capacities that he served in.

 

Meanwhile, the Minister of Defence, Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa and former Governor and Resident Minister for Masvingo, Cde Josiah Hungwe say the untimely death of Cde David Karimanzira has robbed the country of a very consistent, humble and dedicated cadre who was a pillar of strength to both the old and young generation when it comes to nation building.

Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa who had known the late Cde David Ishemunyoro Karimanzira since 1977 during the peak of the liberation struggle said the late national hero immensely contributed in the outcome of the Geneva, Malta and Lancaster House talks, adding that Cde Karimanzira was a dedicated party cadre who persistently exhibited loyalty both to the party and government.

Former Governor and Resident Minister for Masvingo Province, Cde Josiah Hungwe described the late Cde Karimanzira as a veteran nationalist who was consistent throughout his life.

Zimbabwe Farmers Union President, Cde Silas Hungwe who worked with Cde Karimanzira when he was Minister of Agriculture said the country has been robbed of a gallant man of principles who always listened and assisted farmers in times of need.

Cde David Ishemunyoro Karimanzira succumbed to diabetes on Thursday and was declared a national hero owing to his contribution during and after the liberation struggle.

He will be buried at the National Heroes Acre on Sunday, 27 March, 2011.
