Humanitarian intervention has emerged as a key role of disaster management agencies in times of disasters such as floods experienced across the country early this year.
The country was this year faced by a crisis in the form of floods which rocked several parts of the country.
Pivotal to managing the crisis were organisations such as the Zimbabwe Red Cross Society, the Department of Civil Protection and the Air Force of Zimbabwe just to name a few.
Minister of Defence, Dr Sydney Sekeramayi, who was the guest of honour at the belated World Red Cross Day celebrations, said organisations such as the Zimbabwe Red Cross Society have an important role to play in providing assistance during times of disaster.
Head of delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Mr Thomas Merkelbach said his organisation remains committed to its humanitarian activities in Zimbabwe.
Zimbabwe Red Cross Society national president, Mr Edson Mlambo applauded Red Cross volunteers and staff for their dedication in providing a diverse and enterprising range of services tailored to the needs of local communities.

World Red Cross Day is an annual event celebrating the principles of International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.
It is celebrated every year on the 8th of May to pay tribute to the volunteers who participated in the event as well as welcome their precious contributions for helping the needy.
This year’s theme is: ‘Red Cross Everywhere for Everyone.’
