Tennis Zimbabwe Vice President, Biggie Magarira has outlined the key role of hosting international junior events in creating an environment of future success.

The International Tennis Federation (ITF) 18 and under tournament kicked off in Harare yesterday with some players competing in qualifiers in a bid to make the main draw.

With players from across the globe competing in the grade 4 ITF junior tourney tennis, Magarira said the exposure given to young local players is critical to their growth.

After flourishing at last year’s 18 and under junior tourney before going on to excel at the ITF events, Magarira said Mehluli Sibanda is a shining example of the fruits that gradual progression can bring to the sport.

Following the staging of qualifiers, attention will now be on first round action which gets underway at the Harare Sports Club on Monday morning.

Kimberly Bhunu and Rufaro Magarira will be among the players carrying Zimbabwe’s hopes in the girls category, while Thabo Ncube and Tinashe Taruberekera will be Zimbabwe’s promising players in the boys section.
