With the festive season only a few days away, the hospitality industry says it has witnessed a steady increase in hotel occupancy especially in resort areas.Hospitality Association of Zimbabwe Vice President Ms Judy Jones says the festive season has boosted hotel occupancy with Victoria Falls topping the list in the last quarter of the year.
“There is steady increase in hotel occupancy mostly in resort regions such as Victoria Falls. We are approaching the festive season and that is when more people go for holidays, so the festive season and an increase in domestic tourism should be given credit for this surge in hotel occupancy,†said Ms Jones.
Ms Jones said the city hotels have a large number of functions lined up at as people are getting in the festive mood.
The country’s tourism industry was once a vibrant sector until 2000 when western nations imposed illegal sanctions on the country.
Travel warnings issued by Western countries also affected tourist inflows into the country.
However, the lifting of travel bans and warnings by Japan, America and Canada has been welcomed as a positive move that is set to benefit the tourism industry.
