Workplace HIV and Aids intervention programmes are yielding mutually beneficial results for two Kariba based companies, Lake Harvest and Zambezi River Authority and their employees. The two companies say the rate of HIV and Aids related staff absentism declined drastically after they implemented the HIV and Aids policy in line with the provisions of the labour act.
Zambezi River Authority Workplace Programmes Focal Person, Mrs Mangoi Ondiya and Lack Harvest Health Officer, Mr Samson Kofi said productivity has increased while employees have accepted that HIV and Aids literacy require concerted efforts.
The two organisations assist their workers in accessing medication, care, and nutritional support and training of HIV and Aids prevention and mitigation.
In addition, Lake Harvest provides a higher medical aid cover package to employees living with HIV as compared to others.
