hip hop festival.jpg12 dance groups will battle it out for the Battle of the Year Zimbabwe Hip-Hop Dance Championships to be held in Harare on Saturday.

 

Plot Mhako, the Founder and Director of Jibilika Dance Trust, confirmed this, saying eight groups from Harare, two from Bulawayo, one from Chitungwiza and the other from Rusape will grace the stage.

 

Zimbabwe is one of the seven countries in Africa which runs the Battle of the Year Championships. 

 

The championship is a dance festival held annually worldwide and in Africa, it is held in Algeria, Nigeria, Senegal, Tunisia, morocco, South Africa and Zimbabwe.

 

There are two categories in the dance festival, namely the old school and new school hip-hop.

 

The winner in the new school category will travel to South Africa for the Masters of the Rhythm, a South African Hip-Hop Dance Competition on the 28th of August.

 

Meanwhile, the winner of the battle of the old school will travel to Rabat in Morocco on the 7th  of august for the battle of the year Africa.

 

If the Zimbabwean group wins in Morocco, it will travel to France for the world championships.

 

Last year, Zimbabwe was represented by the group Slit Slopper in South Africa.
