Institutions of higher learning need to stop imagining that someone out there will come and revive the industries to employ their graduates, and start realising that they have to help in rebuilding the country’s industries.
This was said by Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Development Minister Professor Amon Murwira during his visit to Great Zimbabwe University (GZU).
Professor Murwira visited GZU as part of his tour of institutions of higher learning in the country.
“Yes, the country has literate people but this is the time to translate that knowledge into goods and services,” said Professor Murwira.
He said Zimbabweans need to rebuild their confidence and beleive that they have what it takes to turn around the fortunes of the economy.
GZU Vice Chancellor Professor Rungano Zvobgo said as universities they will play their role, adding the new government cannot afford to fail in rebuilding the economy.
Meanwhile, Professor Murwira also visited Masvingo Teachers College where he lamented the decrease in the number of students who take up physics and said this needs to be addressed.
